ANNUAL FUND
Did you know that only half the Science Museum of Virginia’s operating budget is provided by state funds? The rest comes from individuals, foundations, corporations and local partners who help the Science Museum produce top-notch exhibits, programs for underserved students and families, teacher training and statewide outreach programs. Gifts to the Annual Fund are separate from membership dues and are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Gifts to the Annual Fund support: 

INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS: Hundreds of permanent exhibits — and visiting exhibits throughout the year — offer visitors hands-on opportunities to learn and experiment with science concepts.

STATEWIDE OUTREACH: Our outreach programs take science far beyond Broad Street Station, delivering our unique brand of science education to all corners of the commonwealth.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS: The Science Museum works hand-in-hand with partner school systems to provide Virginia Standards of Learning-aligned workshops both on-site and in schools.

UNDERSERVED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: Generous gifts allow us to waive admission and program fees for families and schools serving high poverty communities.

LIVE THEATER: Our theater productions and storytelling performances dramatize the impact of science on humanity and illustrate the importance of science in our lives.

*Annual Fund gifts at the Crystal Society level and above receive a complimentary museum membership.

Matching Gifts: Matching gifts are company-donated contributions that match the contributions made by employees of that company. Eligible donors can often double and, in some cases, triple the value of their gift to the Science Museum through employer-matching gift programs. For more information, please ask your employer or the Science Museum of Virginia Foundation office.

PROGRAM SUPPORT
Philanthropic support enables the museum to deliver compelling programs to students and families throughout the commonwealth. Donors may choose to direct their support toward a specific purpose that matches their interests with the needs and priorities of the Science Museum.

MAKING THE MUSEUM ACCESSIBLE TO ALL CHILDREN. Underwriting field trip visits for Title I schools gives children from low income communities an opportunity to experience the world outside their neighborhood or classroom. As cash-strapped schools look for ways to cut costs, these experiences are at risk. Your gift re-opens our doors to the students who need us most.

STATEWIDE OUTREACH. Supporting touring science programs like Science-By-Van, BioExpress and the Carpenter Science Theatre Company enables the museum to share its resources statewide. Our museum educators offer all-school assemblies, classroom workshops, interactive exhibits and live theater to schools and community centers throughout the commonwealth.

IN-DEPTH PROGRAMS TAILORED TO IMPORTANT AUDIENCES. Generous support from a range of donors enables the museum to reach kids after school with the Science Connections series, to prepare at-risk students for their science SOL exams through SOL Enrichment, or to turn young minds on to science through Wonderplace.

Giant-screen films, hands-on exhibitions, live theater, special events and programs are available for sponsorship by your company. Corporate sponsorship at the Science Museum of Virginia enables your company to support the museum's mission, as well as further extend your branding and product messages into the community.
