For teachers of kindergarten through fifth grade, this workshop provides hands-on adventures for the “Life Processes” and the “Living Systems” strands of the Virginia SOLs.

For teachers of kindergarten through fifth grade, this workshop offers a hands-on approach to the “Scientific Investigation, Reasoning, and Logic” strand of the Virginia SOLs.
Earth in Space
Thursday, October 16 2008, 9:00 am–3:00 pm
For teachers of grades four and six, this workshop covers the space and astronomy-related components of the “Earth Cycles, Patterns and Change” and the “Interrelations in the Earth-Space Systems” strands of the Virginia SOLs.
From the Ground Up
Thursday, March 26 2009, 9:00 am–3:00 pm
For teachers of kindergarten through fifth grade, this workshop provides hands-on focusing on the Virginia SOLs related to meteorology and geology.

Each museum-based workshop is $49 per teacher. Includes lunch and a CD packed with activities. Generous sponsorship and in-kind support has made it possible for the Science Museum to lower our fees for Physical Science SOLutions, Life Science is Elementary, Point 1!, From the Ground Up and Earth in Space.

Especially For Middle School Teachers

Teachers Junior Solar Sprint Workshop

Saturday March 7 2009, 9:00 am–3:00 pm
Explore solar energy, gears, transmissions, chassis, mass, wheels and friction as you design and build your own solar car! The activities in this workshop support the Virginia Science Standards of Learning 5.1, 5.3, 6.1–6.3, 6.9, PS. 1, PS. 6, PS. 9 and PS. 10. The workshop also incorporates activities in support of the Computer Technology curriculum.

Fee: $10 per teacher with Junior Solar Sprint registration. Lunch is included. To register for the Teachers Junior Solar Sprint Workshop send your name, school, school phone number and the grade level you teach to Sue Kirk. Support for this workshop is provided by the Virginia Department of Mines, Mineral and Energy.

Purchase orders are accepted for workshops. Class sizes are limited. Register early!

Fee: $42 per teacher (minimum of 10 teachers) plus facilitator travel and lodging where applicable.
