The Forge FAQ’s

 

Will The Forge schedule change due to COVID-19 safety precautions?

  • All Museum guests can enjoy the WestRock Gallery during Museum operating hours. The workshop portion of The Forge will have scheduled hours. As we reopen The Forge, we will begin with Maker Workshops at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. There will be no Maker Challenges initially. We will also offer members-only open making time on Saturdays. 

What safety precautions are being utilized in The Forge?

  • Tables are now spread six or more feet apart, all tools and surfaces are cleaned after each use, the workshop will be closed daily from 12 pm – 1 pm for deep cleaning and all guests/facilitators are required to wear face masks in the space.  Additionally, participation will be limited to maintain physical distance. Maker Workshops will be limited to 12 participants and member-only making time will be limited to 20 participants. 

Can I sign up online for Maker Workshops? 

  • At this time, registration needs to take place at the Museum. To moderate the flow of guests, the Museum is currently offering admission on a timed basis. We cannot guarantee an admission time will be available on the day of your visit, so it’s best to sign up for Maker Workshops onsite. 

I see Maker Workshops are for guests 8 and older. What should I do if I have children both over and under age 8? 

  • Guests under the age of 8 can accompany their family members in the space and will need to stay with the family unit at their making station. Younger guests should not participate in the Maker Workshop, but Forge staff can provide age appropriate materials for exploration while in The Forge. 

What is members-only open making time? 

  • Members-only making time gives our members more time to flex their creative muscles. Every Saturday, from 10 am – 4:30 pm, Museum members can stop by The Forge to work on your own projects. More information can be found here. 

What are Maker Challenges and when will they resume? 

  • Maker Challenges are simple, open exploration-style engineering activities where guests are encouraged to arrive anytime during the activity to participate. We will introduce Maker Challenges back into the schedule for The Forge as we are able.
