Science Museum of Virginia Hosts Annual Girls in Science Event
October 26, 2021
What: Middle school-age girls whose motto is reduce, reuse, recycle will love this fall’s Girls in Science event at the Science Museum of Virginia.
From what we eat to what we wear, girls will explore how daily decisions can contribute to extreme heat and weather events. Interactive activities will allow participants to leverage design, engineering and natural landscapes to make communities resilient and explore renewable energy sources with a solar cell phone charger and fuel cell car.
The event also includes an extreme weather presentation on the Science Museum’s six-foot-diameter suspended Science on a Sphere® and a take-home activity to continue each girl’s connection to environmental science.
When: The Science Museum is offering three hour-long workshops on Saturday, Nov. 13, starting at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Attendees are invited to explore the Science Museum before or after their workshop. (Note: girls selecting the 4 p.m. workshop will need to explore the Science Museum before the workshop.) The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Who: Girls ages 11 through 14 will work through environmental concepts as they participate in various hands-on activities with Science Museum educators.
Why: Not only will attendees leave full of inspiration, but they will also have actionable steps for becoming more resilient today. This will position them to make positive change in their community and see themselves in the STEM field as a future career.
How: Thanks to the generous support from DuPont, Girls in Science tickets are only $10 per person. Pre-registration is required on the Science Museum’s website, including for chaperones. Chaperones can bring up to 10 girls to the event. Each workshop can accommodate 30 total guests.
Where: Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220
