Science, technology, engineering, and math are at the heart of making things. The Museum’s permanent makerspace, The Forge, harnesses the power of the maker movement and encourages guests to roll up their sleeves and create!
The Forge is a cross-generational makerspace for guests of all ages. Come work together to create solutions and tap into your creativity.
Featuring both a showroom and workshop, The Forge is designed to facilitate the creative process, spark inspiration, and instill the idea that anything is possible.
The WestRock Gallery displays inventive regional products, interactive stations (such as a 500 multi-colored programmable lighting piece), and introduces guests to innovative tools and materials. Additionally, the centerpiece of the space is a large welding robot, taught to draw, that creates masterful artistic renditions right before your eyes!
At the heart of The Forge is our workshop comprising the Sharp Design Studio, workroom and machine shop. This space is equipped with quality traditional tools and the latest technologies like CNC routers, 3D printers, a laser cutter, and much more. This space allows guests a deeper exploration into STEM and making by giving them the chance to participate in hands-on workshops that emphasize tool utilization and skill development.
Workshops are held daily at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. every day in October except for the following dates (October 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25).
Maker Workshops are longer, 45-minute experiences led by Forge Facilitators. These project-based workshops result in a take-home item and are limited to 12 participants. All participants must be 8+ years old or older, and participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
