Science Museum Waves White Flag So Guests Can Race In Before Hot Wheels® Exhibition Closes January 23

January 11, 2022

Who:
The days are speeding by for “Hot Wheels™: Race to Win™.” The touring exhibition closes at the Science Museum of Virginia on Sunday, Jan. 23.

Don’t let this wheely fun opportunity pass! Guests who haven’t yet explored the interactive exhibition, or those who want to experience the thrill one more time before it leaves Richmond, need to make a pit stop into the Science Museum in the next two weeks.

What: “Hot Wheels™: Race to Win™” offers a look at the exciting world of racing, investigates the scientific process for designing super-fast cars and helps guests who have the need for speed understand how it is achieved. Using Hot Wheels® die-cast toys and audiovisual simulations, guests explore, build and test the fastest and safest speed machines on the planet.

A six-lane downhill speed track, booster power track, adjustable angles track and timing track are just a few of the ways guests can test their theories regarding cause and effect as well as force and motion. Real race car parts, authentic artifacts and captivating memorabilia round out the immersive experience that has guests observing, predicting and measuring potential and kinetic energy, gravity, mass, inclined planes, distance, averages and more.

When: The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. While normally closed on Mondays, the Science Museum will be open on January 17.

Why: The challenge, creativity and experimentation Hot Wheels cars, tracks, loops and jumps offer develop problem-solving skills and build confidence in future scientists and engineers. The exhibition showcases that hands-on play fosters freedom, self-expression, imagination and joy, and is critical for developing a strong STEM foundation.

After leaving the Science Museum, families are encouraged to continue discussing themes covered in the exhibition on their next road trip, with wheeled vehicles at home or through Science Museum activities to help children make connections to STEM in their daily life.
