What:
The Science Museum of Virginia is jumping into a new decade in the 21st century by going back to the Middle Ages. The Museum will continue its popular adults-only Science on Tap series next week, this time with a Medieval Time theme.
Science lovers 21 and older can enjoy various activities at the event, including inflatable jousting with a culminating tournament, mead samples, medieval crafts, blacksmith demonstrations, medieval medicine challenges, food preservation technique demonstrations by Hamilton Beach, a presentation about “making it” in the Middle Ages, catapult testing and a medieval-inspired astronomy show.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite medieval attire because not only is everything more fun when wearing a costume, but there is also a contest with prizes during the event.
Who:
In addition to a night of kid-free science fun, guests can purchase dinner from three food trucks as well as Belle Isle Moonshine cocktails, beer or cider from several Virginia breweries, and wine.
Why:
The Museum created the evening and changing-theme Science on Tap series after receiving feedback that adults wanted to spend time exploring the exhibits and enjoying special activities with a drink in hand and no children around.
Since the quarterly events started in the summer of 2018, more than 4,000 grown-ups have had a good time while connecting to science in their everyday lives. The most popular Science on Tap event was in January 2019 when the Museum transformed into a speakeasy to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its building.
