What: To celebrate Earth Day, the Science Museum of Virginia is offering an activity-packed event exploring sustainability, natural resources and environmental science.
In addition to being able to explore Science Museum exhibitions and enjoy labs and demos, guests can visit community partner tables to learn about recycling, rain gardens, native trees, water pollution, carbon footprints, pollination and energy savings. The Virginia Chapter of the American Chemical Society will be onsite with two dozen stations where guests can make kelp bath salts, taste sustainable foods, explore bioluminescent algae, make seaweed masks and more.
Guests can also experience a rarely seen part of our Earth by viewing “Antarctica” in The Dome. At noon, 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., guests can discover the hostile and awe-inspiring continent at the bottom of the world on The Dome’s quarter-acre screen. April 22 marks the 40th anniversary of the first show in the Science Museum’s planetarium. To celebrate, Dome shows are included with admission during the Earth Day Celebration.
When: The Earth Day Celebration takes place Saturday, April 22, from noon to 5 p.m. Food trucks will be onsite from noon to 3 p.m. The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Who: Activities are designed for guests of all ages.
Why: Going green is good for everyone! Having a concentration of environmentally focused content, resources and activities for Earth Day reminds guests that our individual sustainability efforts make a positive collective impact on our community and world.
