March 1, 2024
What: The Science Museum of Virginia is adding a new feature to its extensive library. "Secrets of the Sea" joins dozens of giant screen films and astronomy shows playing on rotation in The Dome.
Featuring some of the ocean’s strangest and most spectacular animals, “Secrets of the Sea” offers a face-to-face look at an astonishing array of marine creatures. From pygmy seahorses to giant manta rays, and from barnacle blennies to coconut octopuses, this underwater documentary shows the unique behaviors of nearly 70 species from 16 locations across the globe.
When: To celebrate opening weekend, the Science Museum is washing away the other titles and giving guests nine chances to view the new film.
On March 2 and 3, the only film on The Dome schedule each day will be “Secrets of the Sea.” That’s right: guests can dive in to all sea science all day long!
After opening weekend, "Secrets of the Sea" plays in The Dome at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily in March, plus at 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Guests should check the schedule to confirm showtimes before visiting.
Why: Featuring the largest screen in Virginia at nearly a quarter acre, The Dome’s 250 seat, wrap-around theater offers an elevated, immersive experience that far exceeds watching films in a traditional theater or in-home environment.
Who: “Secrets of the Sea” is appropriate for science lovers of all ages who can sit through a 40-minute underwater adventure.
How: Dome features require an additional ticket that can be added to a Science Museum admission purchase.
Where: Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220
