¡Virginia Fiesta! returns to the Science Museum

Science Museum and Radio Poder 1380AM Bring Back Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

September 25, 2023

What: The Science Museum of Virginia and Radio Poder 1380AM, Richmond’s premier

Spanish radio station, had so much fun celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month together last year that they’re doing it again on September 30.

¡Virginia Fiesta! returns to the Science Museum this Saturday. The day-long celebration of science and culture highlights the contributions of the Hispanic community in Virginia. The event includes a community fair, fiesta market, food trucks, cultural performances, demonstrations and more.

Some activities include:

  • A live artwork creation by Colombian artist Alfonso Pérez Acosta.
  • Children’s storytime featuring books celebrating Hispanic culture.
  • Colombian, Panamanian, Bolivian and Mexican dancing.
  • Singers from Venezuela and Peru.
  • The film "Big Astronomy" playing in The Dome.

In addition, “Wild Kratts®: Creature Power®!” will be on display and The Green will be open. Both the new touring exhibition and greenspace interpretation are presented in English and Spanish.

When: The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ¡Virginia Fiesta! activities take place throughout the day.

The Spanish version of “Big Astronomy” runs at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and the English version of the film plays at 12, 3 and 4 p.m. ¡Virginia Fiesta! marks the reopening of The Dome after being closed in September for an astronomical overhaul of its lighting, computers, projectors and speakers.

Who: Guests of all ages are welcome to attend. Bilingual volunteers will be onsite to assist guests.

¡Virginia Fiesta! is generously sponsored by Sentara Health.

How: During ¡Virginia Fiesta!, Science Museum admission is only $10 per person. The Dome feature and access to “Wild Kratts®: Creature Power®!” is included with admission. ¡Virginia Fiesta! activities in the Rotunda do not require admission. Science Museum members, children two and younger, military and teachers receive free admission. Discounted tickets are available through the Museums for All program.
