Illuminating Answers to Your Burning Questions

GLOW FAQs

How much is GLOW admission?

GLOW activities except Dome features are included with Science Museum admission, which is $18.50 for adults; $15.50 for youth (ages 6–12) and seniors (ages 60 and older) and $11 for preschool-aged children (ages 3–5). Admission is free for Science Museum members and children 2 and under. EBT cardholders receive a discount.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

It is highly recommended that you purchase tickets in advance. GLOW is very popular and may sell out. Further, to help ensure a superior guest experience, we’re offering timed tickets for entry and tickets are limited at each entry window. Purchasing tickets in advance helps ensure you can select your preferred entry time.

What does the entry time on my ticket mean?

The entry time you select is when you should arrive at the Science Museum. The last entry time will be 3:30 p.m. You may stay as long as you’d like after you’ve entered until the event ends at 4:30 p.m.

Do members need to reserve tickets?

All guests, including members, should get their tickets on the Science Museum’s website prior to the event. Tickets will only be available at the door if the event is not sold out.

Are Dome features included with admission?

No. Dome tickets are $5 per show. Guests are encouraged to add Dome show tickets when they purchase their GLOW tickets online. Guests must add their admission ticket to their cart, followed by their GLOW ticket, to reserve both for their visit. Members can use a Dome pass. Dome show tickets will only be available for sale on-site at Guest Services if space allows. The Dome can seat 250 guests.

What is showing in The Dome during GLOW?

Two features will be playing in The Dome during GLOW, Laser Show: Movie Magic and a live astronomy show. Laser Show: Movie Magic is a family-friendly, 30-minute laser show set to songs from popular films, including The Lion King, Star Wars, Encanto, Frozen, Moana and more. The live astronomy show is hosted by one of our astronomers and takes guests into space on Virginia’s largest screen, from the sky above Richmond to discoveries at the edge of the universe.

The GLOW Dome schedule is:

  • 10 a.m. - Laser Show: Movie Magic
  • 11 a.m. - Live astronomy show
  • 12 p.m. - Laser Show: Movie Magic
  • 2 p.m. - Live astronomy show
  • 3 p.m. - Laser Show: Movie Magic
  • 4 p.m. - Live astronomy show

What happens if I arrive late to my Dome feature?

For safety reasons, guests may not enter late once Laser Shows have started, or re-enter The Dome if they need to exit during a Laser Show program. Please be sure to leave enough time to get your concession goodies and use the restroom before the start of shows in The Dome. The Science Museum will not issue refunds for guests who arrive late or leave during a Laser Show. For live astronomy shows, arriving late or re-entering a show after it has begun is discouraged, but is not prohibited.

What if I have tickets for members of my party who have not arrived yet?

If you purchased tickets for multiple people, please enter the event together as all tickets will need to be redeemed at one time. You’re welcome to wait in the Rotunda until all of your guests have arrived.

Where do I park?

All Science Museum parking is free. Here are your options:

  • Our four-level parking deck is located directly beside the Science Museum.
  • There’s a surface lot at the end of Terminal Drive to the west of the Science Museum. Take the access path that runs behind the parking deck to get to the main entrance.
  • There are two surface lots on the east side of the Science Museum, accessible off DMV Drive, in addition to parking at the DMV for GLOW.

There’s street parking on Broad Street, DMV Drive and Leigh Street if decks and lots aren’t your thing. Click here for directions and information about public transportation.

Will there be traffic?

GLOW is a popular event. Offering timed tickets allows us to help control the flow of traffic, but it’s best to plan ahead and allow for extra time to park.

What kind of food will be available?

Guests can fuel up with snacks from several food trucks that will be on-site for part of the day. Food trucks are scheduled to be onsite from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Concessions will also be available throughout the day.

Guests are permitted to bring their own food, which can be eaten on the Portico outside of the front entrance of the Science Museum. Food and drink is not allowed in the exhibit galleries.

Do you have accessibility accommodations?

We do! Please visit our accessibility page for a full list of accommodations.

How do I know what programming is happening during GLOW

When you arrive, please check the schedule located on the screens around the building so you’re aware of the times and locations of all activities. If you need a map to get around the building, please visit smv.org/map. If an area you’d like to visit seems busy, please check out another spot and circle back later. Some spaces have capacity limits. Always feel free to find a team member or volunteer and ask questions!

I bought a ticket and can no longer come. What should I do?

Tickets are refundable up to 48 hours before the event begins, or until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 5. After that time, tickets are not refundable. If you need a refund for your ticket, please contact Guest Services at [email protected] or 804.864.1400. Tickets are also not transferable and they cannot be resold.

If you are a member who has reserved tickets under your membership and your plans have changed, please contact Guest Services at [email protected] or 804.864.1400 so we can make those spaces available for other guests.

I see people offering tickets on social media. Can I purchase those?

No. Tickets are not transferable and they cannot be resold. Unfortunately, scammers like to capitalize on popular events. Only tickets purchased through the Science Museum are valid.
