Going green has never been more fun!

Celebrate Earth Month by enjoying a family friendly, activity-packed festival exploring sustainability, natural resources and environmental science.

On April 19, we’re filling up the TrainYard with 25 community partners ready with hands-on activities to help your family learn all about composting, wetlands, bike infrastructure, solar power, recycling, watershed restoration efforts, native plants and pollinators, energy savings and much more.

Right beside the environmentally focused fun, we’ll have food and refreshments from Curbside Creations and King of Pops so you can fuel up to stick around and enjoy the festival all day.

In addition to the Earth Day partner activities, you’ll be able to enjoy Science Museum demos, labs and exhibitions, including Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks. Use some of the 200,000 loose LEGO bricks to design a green city inspired by what you learn in the environmental activity area.

And don’t forget to include a visit to The Dome! All the films playing during the festival highlight the awesomeness of the Earth. The film Secrets of the Sea runs at 12 and 4 p.m., Birth of Planet Earth runs at 2 p.m. and Into America’s Wild runs at 3 p.m.

The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Earth Day activities take place from 12–5 p.m. Activities take place outside*, and are designed for guests of all ages.

Earth Day activities are included with Science Museum admission, which is only $10 on April 19. Science Museum members, Virginia educators, military personnel and children two and younger are free. Dome features require an additional $5 ticket or members may use a Dome pass.

* Weather permitting. If rain is forecasted, activities will be moved inside.
