How long is a membership valid?
Membership is valid for one full year from the date of purchase or renewal.
When I apply for membership how long will it take to receive my membership card and passes?
You will receive your membership packet including the card and passes within 10 business days of joining or renewing your membership.
Can I visit the Museum before my membership arrives in the mail?
Yes! Simply bring a form of ID and your membership purchase confirmation email to our Guest Services desk and they will assist you.
If I want to become a member after my visit to the Museum, can the price of admission be applied to the cost of a new membership?
Yes, you may apply the cost of Museum exhibit admission to a new membership within two weeks of your visit date. Please bring your original sales receipt to Guest Services and they will be happy to assist you. The cost of Dome tickets and tickets for select touring exhibitions cannot be applied.
I recently upgraded my membership. Why did my expiration date stay the same?
When upgrading, you pay only the difference between your current and new membership level, and your expiration date remains the same. If your renewal date is approaching, you may choose to renew-and-upgrade early, which will extend your expiration date for one full year. Once your upgrade is complete, your upgraded membership benefits will be effective immediately.
What options do members have for unlimited Dome features?
Members can add Infinite Dome on to any membership level (Star, Pulsar, Supernova, Galaxy) for $50. This includes Giant Screen Movies, Cosmic Expeditions and Science After DarkDome features. The Cosmos level of membership includes unlimited Dome features for the 3 adults and children that are included on the membership.
As a member can I purchase discounted Dome tickets online?
Members can purchase discounted Dome tickets online after setting up an online account. To set up an online account, register here. Discounted Dome tickets may also be purchased via phone by calling us at 804.864.1400 or at Guest Services.
What is an ASTC Museum?
The Science Museum of Virginia is an accredited member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC). Museum members receive free or discounted general admission to our network of over 300 member museums all over the world. Click here or visit http://www.astc.org/ for an updated list of all participating museums. Be sure to pack your membership card for your next vacation!

May I purchase a membership as a gift?
Yes, you may purchase a membership as a gift. Just click on the membership level you would like to give to complete your purchase. At the bottom of the page, select “This membership is a gift” button and add the gift recipient’s information to your order.
May I purchase a membership for my business or employees?

How do I make changes to my membership, such as add or change my family members, my address, my phone, etc?
For your convenience we have two ways to make changes, additions, or updates to your information:
Why didn’t I get a new card with my renewal?
In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, our membership cards aren't printed with expiration dates. As long as you remain active at the same membership level, you can use the same card year after year. If you have changed your membership level or need a replacement card, please email email@example.com we’ll be happy to print one for you.
How do I replace a lost or stolen membership card?
You may replace your lost or stolen membership card by emailing our Membership Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 804.864.1449. Please allow 10 business days to receive your new card.
May I receive a refund on my membership dues?
No, all membership purchases are nonrefundable.
May I give my membership to someone else?
Museum memberships are not transferable, but you can purchase an additional membership to give as a gift.
Can I let my relatives or neighbors use my membership card to visit the Museum?
No. Memberships are nontransferable and can only be used by the individuals listed on the membership card.
Can I use my membership card to bring a school group to the Museum?
No. Membership admission cannot be used for school group admission because the school group is not covered by your membership. Only those adults and children named on your membership are permitted.
If I come with a school group that is participating in special demonstrations can I join that group?
No. Paid group demonstrations are not part of a member benefit if you use your membership to check-in separately from the group.
