Magawa, an African giant pouch rat, just retired from his job of sniffing out land mines. In the last five years, the rodent has detected 71 land mines and 38 other potentially dangerous battle leftovers strewn across the Cambodian landscape. So, how does a rat identify that many land mines? With a little help from some operant conditioning, of course!
