Mobility Devices

  • Wheelchairs, including manual or electric single seat chairs and electric mobility seated scooters, and other manually operated mobility devices including walkers, crutches, canes, braces, and other similar devices, are permitted in all public areas of the Museum.
  • The Museum also has electric scooters and power-driven and manually-operated wheelchairs available for use free of charge from the Guest Services Desk on a first-come basis.


Elevators

  • The Science Museum of Virginia has elevators connecting guests with every level of the Museum.


Guest Guide

  • Available at the Guest Services desk, the map/guide contains a floor plan of the Museum for easier navigation.


Restrooms

  • Accessible restrooms are located throughout the Museum. Family restrooms are located on Level 1 through the Discovery Room (when available) and by the Dome Theater, on Level 2 in The Forge, and on Level 0 in the Dewey Gottwald Center.


The Dome

  • Wheelchair accessible seating is located at the top of The Dome theater and is accessed through the theater exit on Level 1.
  • The Dome elevator provides access for guests from Level 0 to the accessible seating on Level 1.


Service Animals

  • Service dogs are welcome at the Science Museum.
  • Science Museum staff may ask that a service dog be removed if it is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or it is not housebroken. If this occurs, the individual will be given the opportunity to remain at the Science Museum without the animal.
