Maker Challenge: Coast Guard Rescue

Get ready to design, build, and race in a hands-on engineering adventure! Grab LEGO pieces and simple materials to create your own Coast Guard vehicle, then top it off with a paper sail to harness the wind. Once your vehicle is ready, head to the track and see how shape, balance and sail size can make all the difference in speed, stability and rescue time. 

Explore real-world science as you go, experimenting with forces, motion and energy transfer. Can you build a vehicle that glides smoothly, stays on track and speeds to the rescue?

This challenge will be held August 15 as part of Operation Rescue.

About Maker Challenges

Stop by The Forge anytime during Maker Challenge hours! No registration is required and you can stay for 15 minutes or the full 2 hours!

Maker Challenges are included with Science Museum admission and are designed for learners of all ages. Use your creativity and critical thinking skills to build solutions to fun challenges! New and different challenges happen each month.

Advance registration is not required, but space is limited to 25 participants at a time. All participants must be at least 8 years or older. Participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
