Whether you have already booked a homeschool group visit with us or you're still getting the lay of the land, this page has all the information you will need to prepare for your visit.
Discounted group admission is available for groups of 10 or more paying guests that prebook their experience with our Group Adventures team. This discount is not available at the door. You can book your group visit by calling 804.864.1400 or by completing the group visit form.
Live Science Programs can be added to your visit for $4 per paying guest in addition to the group admission rate of $10 per person. For example, if one Live Science Program was added to your visit, the cost would be $14 per person. If two Live Science Programs are added to your visit, the cost would be $18 per person. Lessons cannot be added on the day of a visit and must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance. Payment is due at the time of registration.
Yes. Homeschool groups of fewer than 10 paying guests can still book a Live Science Program. However, the minimum price to book a Live Science Program is $140. This represents the cost of 10 paid guests - the minimum required to access group pricing for admission - plus the $4 per person cost of a Live Science Program. Lessons cannot be added on the day of a visit and must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance. Payment is due at the time of registration.
Groups can add a Dome feature to their visit for $4 per person. Your group can select a Dome feature from our current scheduled shows and times. Please note that our Dome schedule is typically published mid-month for the following month. While Dome features can be added to your experience on the day of your visit, it is recommended that your group adds Dome features when pre-booking your visit. We cannot guarantee tickets will be available on the day of your visit.
We use content and developmental abilities to determine appropriate age levels. It will help us if you indicate the ages of your children on the group booking form. We’ll do our best to accommodate multiple ages in the class, but please know that we will be teaching the lessons for the age levels and grades listed.
Yes, children must be chaperoned while at the Science Museum. We require one adult chaperone per 10 students.
As long as the one-adult-per-10-student ratio is maintained during the visit and any additional programs, all the adults do not have to remain. Please keep in mind that the adult(s) selected as the chaperone is responsible for supervising the children at all times. At no time may children be left with Science Museum personnel without a chaperone.
Admission, including the cost of any additional programming (Live Science Program, Dome feature, etc.) is required for all guests ages three years or older.
Any non-teacher included in your visit must pay admission. The cost of admission is determined by activities during your visit.
Yes. Because groups of 10 or more get a special price for personalized visits, individual memberships and other discounts are not applicable towards group admission, Live Science Programs or group Dome features.
Teachers, including homeschool teachers, receive free admission to the Science Museum with their teacher ID or a copy of their homeschool letter of intent. Please note that 10 paying guests are required to access discounted group pricing and group Live Science Programs. A teacher receiving free admission is not included in the 10-paying-guest minimum.
The minimum price for your booked group experience will still be required. The price of your group experience will depend upon the programming you selected.
Groups at the Science Museum during lunch should plan to bring their own lunches or snacks. For groups that have pre-booked their visit, we will work to schedule a single, 30-minute lunchtime for your group to help you maximize your visit. A lunch spot or time is not guaranteed, so please be prepared to eat on the lawn if no spots are available. Please note, the Science Museum cafe does not provide group lunch options and is not available for group lunch seating. No outside food or drink is allowed in the cafe.
